A few years ago, I was eating a handful of cheerios for breakfast- I truly believed that eating as little as possible for breakfast (if anything at all) and saving my calories for later in the day was the best way to lose weight. But I now know how detrimental that approach is! After anywhere from 8-12 hours without eating, your body NEEDS fuel to get going. A breakfast like overnight oats will jump start your metabolism and keep you feeling satisfied.
The amount of milk in the recipe can be tweaked a bit depending on how thick you want your oats to be. This is my go-to breakfast most days: I typically divide this recipe into two mason jars, and eat half a jar plus a banana for a filling morning meal!
2 overripe bananas
1/2 cup peanut butter
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tablespoon cinnamon
2.75 cups old fashioned oats
1 .75 cups unsweetened almond milk
- Mash bananas in mixing bowl until they are relatively smooth, then stir in peanut butter.
- Add cocoa powder and cinnamon and mix thoroughly.
- Add oats and milk and stir until thoroughly mixed.
- Place ingredients in jar or container of choice and refrigerate overnight.
